| 3/25/04 11:29 AM Dear Toledo City Paper, Thank you for your interest in the band, Dr. Kilpatient and your article about Dr. Kilpatient in the March 25-31 issue. It is a terribly difficult thing to get anybody to listen to the sort of music that Dr. Kilpatient does, especially in the burg of Toledo, OH. So, of course I was thrilled when 9 O’clock was chosen for the Toledo City Paper CD Compilation. Even more thrilled that there would be an article in the paper about me and my song. Then, inevitably, I read it, and cringed. (Actually I yelled some obscenities, crumbled up the paper and threw it.) There were some errors, to say the least. • My name was spelled wrong. Really. I realize the urge to just assume that Tom is always spelled T-O-M. That would probably be why I made it a point to give the City Paper the correct spelling. • I am not the Exalted Potentate of Love as the article suggests. That is the name of the vocalist on 9 O’clock. I didn’t sing the lead vocals. • I did not start off as a DJ. When we started Dr. Kilpatient, we had a DJ, Ben Smith. I was never a DJ of any sort. • No Thanks to Erik Live 2003 is not the new studio album. (The new live studio album?) That would be Some Ol’ Fashioned Maladies, which is not mentioned. • 9 O’clock, as heard on the City Paper CD, did not come from It’s a Very Special Dr. Kilpatient Christmas. That is where the song first appeared, but this version is from Some Ol’ Fashioned Maladies. (That new album that wasn’t mentioned.) • These albums are not available at Allied Records. Please note that the last three errors all appear in the last paragraph of the article. This CD was a great idea. It brought a lot of musicians together (at least in an audio format) that wouldn’t have been together. It gave us exposure. If I gained at least one semi-casual fan, it was all worth it. However, I’m sure that the Toledo City Paper, as well as any musician in my position, would feel the same when reading such an inaccurate portrayal of them. It is a shame to us who actually do take pride in our work. Sincerely, Ptahmb Kordowski a.k.a. Dr. Kilpatient SHIT!!! I am so sorry! I will run a correction in the 4/8 issue. It's weird, 'cuz nobody else has reported discrepancies (lucky you, eh?) I owe you. Steven J. Athanas Arts & Entertainment Editor (and sometimes doo-doo head) Toledo City Paper |
